Best Gems
Best Gems in WoW Midnight by Spec
MythicSim ranks every Midnight epic gem by the DPS it adds per socket for each of the 40 specs, from the spec's simmed stat weights on Patch 12.1.0. One number per gem, the same for every socket, refreshed weekly.
Gems are pure stat, so the maths is exact: rating on the gem times the spec's DPS per point of that stat. Pick a spec for the ranking, the socket guide, and the stat priority it comes from.

What this is
Every Midnight epic gem adds a fixed amount of one secondary stat. A spec's stat weight is the DPS one point of that stat is worth, measured by SimulationCraft on Patch 12.1.0. Rating times weight is the gem's DPS per socket, and ordering the gems by that number is the ranking.
This is derived, not simmed, on purpose. Simming gem swaps directly produces deltas below the sim's noise floor at any sane iteration count, so the ranking would flip between runs. Stat weights average over the whole fight and are stable week to week.
Refreshed every Sunday after the SimulationCraft weekly bump, when the stat weights resim.
Frequently asked questions
Why not just sim the gems?
A single gem is a small fraction of a character's secondary stats, so the DPS difference between two gems is smaller than the sim's run-to-run noise unless you spend an enormous iteration budget. Stat weights measure the same thing across the whole fight and give an exact, noise-free answer.
Should I mix gems?
Usually no. Stat weights are close to linear over the range a few sockets cover, so the best gem stays the best gem in every socket. Mixing only pays off when two stats are within a couple of percent of each other, and then it barely matters which you pick.
What about meta gems and primary-stat gems?
The ranking covers the single-secondary epic cuts, which is what goes in a normal prismatic socket. A meta socket takes its own gem and should always be filled; primary-stat cuts are not compared here because the weight of a primary stat is not the same kind of number as a secondary weight.
How many sockets do I have?
In Midnight Season 2 a socket can appear on necks and rings from the loot table, and can be added to a head, neck, ring, wrist or belt piece with the seasonal socket item. Count your prismatic sockets on your character sheet and fill each with the top gem here.
How often does it update?
Every Sunday after the weekly SimulationCraft bump, when the stat weights are resimmed. The SimC commit on each spec page is the reference.
