Best in Slot
Best in Slot Gear in WoW Midnight by Spec
MythicSim lists the best item for every equipment slot on every WoW Midnight Season 2 spec, ranked from each spec's simmed stat weights on Patch 12.1.0. Trinkets come from the weekly simmed trinket board, tier pieces are pinned to their slot, and every item names the boss or dungeon it drops from.
Pick a spec for a slot-by-slot list with up to five alternatives per slot, the stats on each item, and the source. Items whose on-use or proc effect the weights cannot see are flagged rather than guessed at.

What this is
Most equipment slots hold pure stat sticks, and for those the best item is the one whose stats score highest against the spec's stat weights, the same DPS-per-point numbers behind the stat priority pages. Each item's stats are scaled to the season ceiling (Myth 6/6 for raid and dungeon drops, the crafted cap for crafted gear) with SimulationCraft's own item scaling, so the comparison is like for like on Patch 12.1.0.
Trinkets are the slot where effects dominate, so that slot is taken from the weekly simmed trinket leaderboard instead. Tier pieces are pinned to rank one of their slot because the set bonus outweighs any stat difference. Items with on-use or proc effects outside the trinket slot are ranked on their stats and flagged, since a stat weight cannot value an effect.
Refreshed every Sunday after the SimulationCraft weekly bump, when the stat weights and trinket boards resim.
Frequently asked questions
How is a best-in-slot list made without simming every item?
A stat weight is the DPS one point of a stat adds for the spec, measured by SimulationCraft. Multiplying an item's stats at the season ceiling by those weights gives its DPS value, and ranking items in a slot by that value gives the list. For pure stat items this is as accurate as the weights themselves. Trinkets, where effects matter most, are simmed directly on the trinket leaderboard and copied in.
What about items with procs or on-use effects?
Outside the trinket slot they are ranked on their stats alone and marked with an effect badge. The badge means the number understates the item by whatever the effect is worth. Treat those as candidates to sim on your own character rather than settled picks.
Why is the tier piece always first?
The four-piece set bonus is worth more than any stat difference between two items in one slot, so the tier piece is pinned to rank one of each tier slot. The alternatives below it are ranked normally and are what you would wear in your fifth tier slot or before you have the set.
Does this match what top players wear?
Each spec page compares every slot with what the top ten Mythic+ players for that spec wear and says where they disagree. Usage never changes the ranking: ten characters is a small sample and their gear is what dropped for them. It is the honest flag for items whose effect the weights cannot see.
Is this a full best-in-slot set with set bonuses and pairings solved?
No. It is per item on a fixed baseline: each slot is ranked independently and set bonuses are held constant. It tells you which item to chase for each slot, not the one combination that maximises your character. For that, paste your /simc string and run Top Gear.
Which item level are items compared at?
Raid and Mythic+ drops at the Myth 6/6 ceiling, crafted gear at the crafted cap, everything else at its fixed item level. That is the same rule the trinket leaderboard uses, so the two agree.
How often does it update?
Every Sunday after the weekly SimulationCraft bump, when the stat weights and trinket boards are resimmed. The SimC commit on each page is the authoritative reference.
